Thrift Store Chic

I've been loving the big, garish, costume-jewelery that seems en vogue, once again. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this pop-bead reminiscent necklace (and matching bracelet!) at the thrift store a couple of weeks ago.

I've been noticing that a remarkable bauble or two seem to make all the difference. Toss one on and the basic t-shirt and jeans have been elevated to a chic level that a mom can actually aspire to.

Any other fashion tricks out there, ladies? What is cheap, simple, and makes you feel good? What are you always on the hunt for because you know it's a "no fail" number? Us Mamas want to know.

  1. My theory is that new, big accessories can completely change and update any old outfit. Plus, it's much cheaper to buy a new necklace than a new top! Keep on thrifting!

  2. I've never been a belt person because I've always thought they make me look too bulky, but I bought a really cool belt buckle from an old guy at my church who polishes and cuts local stones for jewelry. I got a rustic-looking leather belt from Meijer and voila! I am looking for excuses to wear it.

  4. What a beautiful picture! I love the necklace. I have been working on using accessories, and they usually last an hour or two before a child has taken them over. But at least I look good in that hour or two. :-)

  6. Love those beads!

My no fail number... black. I know, not exciting, but it does maintain a certain chic level all on its own.

  7. Love the beads! I have a chunky turquoise colored necklace that is a favorite of mine as well.

My fashion tip is to have at least one cashmere cardigan in a fun shade. It can be worn in all kinds of weather and can add a splash of color to anything. I got mine for $18 at a resale shop, not bad for 100% cashmere!

  8. I think a cut hat can make any outfit special. Think straw fedora. You almost have to go easy on the accessories when wearing such a *cool* hat. :)
