Simplistic Complexity

How I am loving soft boiled eggs and their trusty English "soldiers" for dunking. A perfectly done egg is such victory! So velvety and scrumptious.

In my ever-so-brief European summer in college, we ate soft-boiled eggs most every morning. A little bit of skill to develop so one can crack and then scoop without bits of shell to munch on, but a rather pleasant routine to attend to.

I have found, however, our very round American spoons are not always accommodating. Must keep a thrift-store eye out for the pointy "egg spoons" that make eating these treats so much easier!

  1. I have to agree, a soft boiled egg is beautiful to behold, especially when cradled in light blue, but, I must admit, I prefer my eggs to be cooked "till they can bounce."

  2. wow, that just is so cute to me! I loved reading about soft boiled eggs in "Bread and Jam for Francis" (remember that book? One of my favorites). Anyway, I've never had one, but I love reading about them and looking at them. Strange, but true!

And I love the photo. Really neat!

  3. I've never had a soft boiled egg, though the doneness to which I fry an egg is apparently close to what you would get with a soft-boiled on. I love the idea of egg cups and egg spoons. Specialized dishes and silverware are always so charming.

  4. My kids thing this is the most special breakfast ever, because we will have it on vacation, where hotels and such have the cutie cups. I need to get me some of those so it can be vacation at home!

  5. Wow, my husband would LOVE that! I overcook his eggs all the time (so I'm pretty much banned from trying : ) Great photo.

  7. Yours looks so tempting. . .I usually like my eggs totally hard, but "velvety"? Well, maybe I will try again because that sounds so nice (and I would LOVE to collect pretty egg cups!).
